Getting a doctorate in a biological science would be pretty fun. For the dense: I'm not talking MD, but rather PhD in Genetics, Botany, Zoology, Evolutionary Biology, etc. Of all the applied sciences, Biology was by far my favorite. I've never made below an A in any bio class ever because it just makes so much sense to me.

As far as careers go, this would likely make me a grizzled, grumpy researcher who takes notes on a bunch of salamanders in a tank in-between...

both were easy to manage and interesting. I ended up with a good career in pharma distribution. I don't think that majors matter a whole lot unless you are going specifically for a certain career. At least in Memphis, folks are more concerned if you were able to graduate or not.

BA & MA in PoliSci here. Had 2 shitty jobs for a few months each before I got a good job that I've grown at and with and make about twice what I did 4 yrs ago. Not breaking the bank by any means, but b/t what my wife makes (BSES and, like me, it took until that 3rd job or so) and what I make, we're very comfortable for a couple still in their 20s.

If I had to start all over, I'd have majored in Accounting and probably got a Master's and taken the CPA had I known...

The chip on the should is a product of the program. we all get it, it fades after a while though. It's b/c they isolate us from campus in oxford and from the other programs in Jackson at UMC.

You guys act like teaching is something that you tolerate rather than something you have a passion for. No offense Htoddy but people that teach until they can move up the ladder are the reason our educational system suffers. If you don't have a passion for teaching, sell insurance or something.

it's not inherently dangerous, but can cause Steven-Johnson syndrome (google image it).
Depends on why you take it and what else you take. message me if you're concerned. I don't know what HIPAA's stance on internet boards is.

I know the kids in Oxford whinny, that's a tradition. Jackson really does suck though, but so does law school, med school, blah blah blah. I'm not trying to be self-righteous about all this. I'm just saying it ain't easy and pharmacists aren't just bar tenders with cooler shit. And I'm sitting in Jackson right now and have been all day.

I don't claim that accounting is the hardest major. I highly doubt that. I would guess law because it's so damn subjective. However I do know that it was no cake walk like rx seems to think that anything other than pharmacy is.

And I'm not picking on you and I certainly respect your schooling and knowledge. I know its difficult. I've got several friends who are Pharms. However I've got a couple of beefs with your post.

1) I've never in my life (at least to my knowledge) ever had a doctor screw up a dosage on a scrip. So to say "most MDs are effing morons in the drug area" is beyond ridiculous. I've got a feeling that pharmacists must have a chip on their shoulder with...

all the opioids do it. same thing happens in-patient with morphine. Imodium does the same thing. it hits the opioid receptors in the gut but not the brain so you don't get stoned, but you don't shit either. the opioid receptors in the gut reduce GI motility so when they are activated your gut doesn't move and you don't poo. get some fiber in your diet or colace.

So to drop the hammer, I'm currently a P5 in Jackson (done in 24 hours). The P5 year is without a doubt the hardest thing I've ever done, so I think I've earned my future pay check and a little respect. It's not going to be fun and games it's work. I agree with grad. Don't go to law school unless you really really want to be an attorney. I like it but I have lots of friends that hate it. what would you major in? MIS? Programming? Engineering? Cock sculpture? Animal husbandry?

Foresight was not my strong suit the first time around, and I was as myopic as Sammy Davis, Jr as far as career goals were concerned. As a result, I have a relatively worthless degree unless I decide that law school is the direction I want to go, or could stomach moving to Washington, D.C.
