The wife and I are going to be in Oxford this weekend and would like to get a good steak. Any suggestions? (I don't want to have to make reservations)

might want to rethink those reservations. I have not been to Andy's Steakhouse, but I have not had a good steak in Oxford in a restaurant in about 5
years.

true steakhouses. Prime has gotten mixed reviews. I love it. The bone in is fabulous and creamed corn is the best ive everhad.
Andy's has had some good comments. I thought the service was horrible and it just seemed like the chef is trying to hard. Most will say Yocona.

has a new chef and a new menu. Should be really good. City Grocery always has a killer filet. The hanger steak at the Ravine is really good. I think it is
back on the menu.

....... think you might like a steak stuffed with crawfish go to the Rooster Blues Room. Obviously not a formal place.
Was down in Oxford Monday with my Dad. I haven't been to the Square in a while and this was new to us so we walked in to check it out about 7pm. Was greeted immediately and the waiter recommended "The Velvet Hammer." Sounded goofy but I got it anyway. Huge filet, had to be bigger than 12 oz., stuffed with crawfish and topped with some kind of cajun sauce. Great cut of meat, seasoned just right, and the crawfish and sauce set it off. I had macaroni, sweet potato fries, and biscuits with mine. Do not get the sweet potato fries they are awful. They also have a few other steaks, seafood, different salads, kabobs, bbq, and some sandwiches. My dad had the catfish and seemed to really enjoy it. I know it's not a classic steak place but it is something different and good. |

Hanger Steak @ Ravine is very good. Andy's is pretty good, and Yocona is Yocona. Good, if you like sauce on your steak, which I don't. Prime is better
with the new chef. Steaks are better.

City Grocery has the best steaks and they know how to cook them rare. Yocona River Inn is second best. They put Yocona sauce on their steaks. Andy's
Steakhouse is third best. They know how to cook a rare steak too.
The worst steak I ever had in Oxford was at Prime. Maybe their new cook is better, I don't know. But they need a new exterminator too. I don't like seeing roaches crawl on the ceiling while I eat. |

I have never ordered Hanger Steak. It's such a bad cut of meat that I don't trust | #15 | ||

restaurants with it. I know it's more flavorful, and can be great, I just don't trust it. It's so grainy and can be so tough, it has to be cooked
almost perfectly.
Good for them for doing it right.

Please, no more "best steak in Oxford" threads. It's old.
Almost as old as Wright Thompson's Outside the Lines article on ESPN.com rehashing 1962 and being the 1,000th writer to say the same old shit over and over. We get it. Racism. Football glory. Profound. And I don't believe for one minute somebody burned a cross in your yard when you were a kid. |

Two of the absolute shittiest steaks I've ever eaten.
The sides were dead man cold. The service was shitastic. The drinks were awesome, but not good enough to get me to come back. They will have had to do a MAJOR overhaul of every aspect of that restaurant for me to ever consider going back. Just shitty all-around. |

yocona is not in oxford so i dont know how you could back that statement up? lets start putting a little thought into what we're eating. there are not
going to be many places in oxford this weekend where you dont need reservations- except those that won't accept them...
