Posts: 101 Apr 10, 2009 2:14 PM	Tags : None Pat Patterson, the guy running for Mayor of Oxford, once declared at a Board of Alderman meeting that he wants to ban smoking everywhere in the Oxford city limits. He asked the city attorney to "look into it." I don't even smoke and I take offense to this. We don't need a Mayor who wants to round up a group of citizens and force them to camps outside the city, nor do we need yet another Mayor who wants to crack down on Oxford's nightlife. Patterson has been on of the biggest supporters of Mayor Howorth's "War on Alcohol" and happy went along with cracking down on such.

It would benefit the country to not have to pay billions in medical expenses as these people die for no good reason. It would allow these poverty level mother fuckers that get food stamps to actually have another 20 bucks a week to spend on damn food or something else where they wouldn't waste tax payer dollars getting shit for free. You act as if there is any benefit what so ever for smoking at all to anyone. What is it? They don't smoke because they like it. They smoke because it's addicting. Again tell me any other addiction, gambling, alcohol, drugs, whatever. Why are all those considered so fucking serious and smoking kills more than any other. (not saying gambling will kill you but it will fuck up your life). why does nobody give a shit about smoking?

I really don't see the draw to it either though, especially with how expensive it is these days. I couldn't afford to be a smoker on my budget.

Smoking on private property is no business of any city, county or any other government agency. If you owned a restaurant and they pass a law that all meals have to be healthy; are you going to be happy that government is telling you how to run your business? We need to stop asking or depending on the government to protect us. If you don't like the smell, stay the fuck away from places that smell that way. Our air quality is Oxford is such a concern, fly into Houston or LA, then tell me just how bad you have it here.
