What I recommend to people lately:
The Hold Steady - if you like The Boss, you will dig these guys. I think their new stuff is better.
Neko Case - this woman's voice is like a Nolan Ryan fastball. I'm serious, she's amazing. And she is HOT.
The National - see thread on here from a couple days ago.
The Avett Bros - solid.
A couple people on here lately recommended Hinder and Creed...anybody got anything else?

But you said "Creed" without immediately following it with some version of "is terrible". You KNOW that's like kryptonite to music
elitists.

Pay no attention to the so-called hipster clothing, tendencies, etc. It's music with value.
ETA: Hot Lava, album Lavalogy. If you care for a mix of Animal Collective/Belle and Sebastian, you might like them.

I second that. "Girls and Boys in America" is a really good album. The acoustic EP "live at fingerprints" is badass.

If blues is your bag, there's new stuff out there.
As far as the rest of "today's shit," while there may be more of it to wade through, which in itself is not a bad thing, there's plenty of new music that merits a positive response, be it a toe tap, album purchase, or brief message board defense. |

I heard it was supposed to sound like "Being There" part 2. Well, it doesn't. It sounds more like Yankee Hotel Foxtrot made sweet love to Sky
Blue Sky and had a baby that was raised by My Morning Jacket. That's just my first impressions.
As for The Hold Steady, they are a band that gets very little press and therefore the public is unaware of how hard these bitches will rock your ass. They employ one of the best rock guitarist in the biz, but he looks like a librarian so he gets no love. I recommend starting with Separation Sunday. Then going to Boys and Girls in America. Be sure to buy the song "You Gotta Dance" from iTunes. It's only on a compilation called Crisp Songs but it is a must own for THS fans. These guys are lyrically unmatched. The lyrics are dense and the songs are small novels. I kinda like these guys. "How a Resurrection Really Feels" is hands down the best rock song you've never heard. |

It does get tiring that 98% of their songs are depressing as hell. It's basically emo bluegrass.
Your favorite sports team scores a game tying point, you find a dollar in the street, you see someone you hate get their ass kicked in public, all of these blissful moments deserve, nay, demand the most communal of public displays of pleasure: The Landshark. |

I've heard some of their stuff, what I have heard I liked.
Oh yeah, the singer sounds like Billy Corgan. Thats why I remember them.
