I feel that having a Blackberry |
Lead | ||

just adds to my already dominating superiority over most other human beings. I see the Blackberry as the settled, focused, serious minded, intellectual phone
while I perceive the Iphone as the phone for people who still spend at least 4 days a week completely in their underwear, while trying to write the great
American short story, high, while playing video games with other underwear clad future stars.
I could be wrong though. allinjestku |

I do have Slacker and love it. I can plug a set of JBL speakers into the phone and play it loud.

I was set for a teleconference for this morning and the schedule was sent to my email(which I have set to be sent to my phone). It was set for today between 10 and 11 a.m. and my Blackberry went off at 9:45 this morning reminding me of my teleconference. I never programmed it in as a reminder, the phone did it for me. |

except for that you're completely wrong in every way. iPhone is superior in every way imaginable not the least of which is that you are able to text in a
meeting without the clicky keys from hell. Why do you think BB copies everything iphone does?

just had the thing for week, and I love it. I think the Iphone is great too, from what I have seen. I do think the Blackberry is much more suited for the work
related uses I need it for.
Did you read the last line of my post? |

I counter your clicky keys with the ability to feel which button I'm pushing and not having to worry about fat fingering a touch screen to the point that I
curse at the phone for typing a button I didn't push.

BBs are great too. I can't talk my wife into switching to the iPhone. Sure beats the hell out of my first cell phone.

but that problem goes away after about a month of use. Plus it has an excellent find and replace system that sometimes works too good. For instance fuck
always turns to duck if you're not paying attention and once my wife asked me where I was and I replied I was at the gym only I typed gyn which turned into
gun and needlesss to say she panicked.

Having a Blackberry is like having lots of keys. It's a great feeling of responsibility and achievement until you realize that nobody carries more keys
than the janitor. The CEO has maybe one key.
The iPhone is like having one key. You have the tool you need to get the job done, but you've also got your 2-seater Mercedes convertible out back to run you down to your power boat so you can relax. You can have the Blackberry, all dressed up in his suit, or you can have the iPhone in his Tommy Bahama ready to chill on the beach with a couple of Abita Ambers. iPhone, please. |

Find and replace has done that to me more than once | #13 | ||
|
My wife once texted me "Where are you?" or something similar. I was busy, and replied, "Sec" as in "just a second." Find and
replaced changed that into "sex". That was interesting.
But yes, most people get upset about typos. I've found I can generally just ignore them due to find and replace. |

ETA that pic above may be hard to understand. This is my screen background below, and when I took it to Sam's Club this morning, hot older women in hairnets offered me free food samples.

I have a blackberry and it isn't nearly as good as the iphone, except it is easier to type on. However, Palm is coming out with something with all the
features and touch screen of the iphone and a full slide-out keyboard. It will take time to build up the app store, but it looks like it is going to be far
superior to the iphone. One cool feature: you don't have to plug it in to charge it. You just set it on a pad.

I do wireless support for MailStreet. We do exchange hosting and provide blackberry enterprise server, goodlink, and activesync for mostly small businesses.
(We're pretty damn good too, and I'm the best fucking wireless support technician on the planet (or so I make myself believe).)
I support all of the handhelds that can support microsoft exchange in some form or fashion. I've seen just about all of them these last 5 years. The iPhone is a beautiful device. It's great for movies, music, email, pictures, and is perfect for a 'Mac person'. I like everything about it except for the keyboard. I'm not a huge fan of touch screen keyboards. You can't drive and type on it at the same time (not that that is ever safe to do with any phone). If it had a slide-out, true keyboard, it would be the dominant device. There is also only one model of iPhone. There are no other options or models. Supporting it is a little tougher, especially when you are trying to talk a novice thru entering settings to get it configured for an exchange server. Half the time they fat-finger the settings and end up deleting and redoing the same settings a few times before they get it right. Also, battery life stinks. The blackberry is a true business machine. I carry the 8900 curve from t-mobile and it is very stable. I also use it as an MP3 player. I don't bother with movies on it because who wants to watch a movie on a 2-inch screen? Coupled with the blackberry enterprise server, you sync email with subfolders, calendar, contacts with subfolders, notes, and tasks (notes and tasks do NOT sync on the iPhone. Microsoft still has Apple by the balls). The camera is solid and does video as well. Getting a blackberry to activate on an enterprise server can be tricky, but once it's done, it's a fairly powerful PDA. (I've mastered this activation process.) I've played with the Storm (touch-screen BB) and it's nice, but not for me. I've used the curve, pearl, 8220 flip-pearl, 8700, 7100, and 6210. All were stable, solid devices in their time. The windows mobile phones are ok, but tend to reset and drop calls too frequently for my tastes. My engineers like to use them because of the slingbox app and the ability to RDP into servers remotely. It's also microsoft, so the apps included are already familiar and non-intimidating like some phones. Activesync is super easy to setup and support. They sync tasks unlike the iPhone. Still no notes though, which I must say is weird considering the blackberry does it. The Google G1 is pretty neat and has a future if Google keeps putting money into it. Just kinda young right now. Palm lost a lot of market share and is scratching and clawing to survive. The centro, pre, and palm pro haven't impressed me too much. The people using them are usually holdovers from the original palm pilot days. Kinda like how Mac people keep buying Macs. Why use a stylus when everyone else is using a finger-touch screen? Seems a little antiquated to me. This is all leading up to the point where you'll plug your phone into some kind of docking station that'll connect a keyboard, mouse, and larger screen to your phone to run standard business or non-business applications. The desktop computer, almost disposable now, is going to slowly disappear. Our phones will take their place and be far more important. |
