Your first place New York Yankees set a major league record last night by playing 18 consecutive games without making an error. The 26-time World Series
champion Bronx Bombers slapped around Cleveland in the 5-2 victory and are set another victory tonight as the lowly Texas Rangers, a team unfortunate enough to
be associated with draft-dodger George W. Bush, will have to summon enough courage to venture into YANKEE STADIUM for their coming ass whipping.

Its been difficult to pull for them recently..... | #21

and i have trouble finding fault w/ this statement:
they represent everything that is wrong with Major League Baseball.

And I REALLY love the game of baseball.

the only thing | #23 | ||

that i get mad about when people say "the represent everything that is wrong with baseball" is that i feel they are referencing the fact that they
spend a gazillion dollars on their payroll. however, these same damn people pull for teams that, if they had the same income as the yankees, would probably do
the same damn thing.

Chico,
Notice he never mentioned his team...just the NL. I'm betting a Braves fan. |

I certainly can't blame the Yankees for doing it. Should they voluntarily not try to win? | #25
|
It's baseball's system, not the Yankees. Blame the commish, the other owners, whoever, but as long as they can do this within the rules, they would be
doing their fans a disservice not to.

And, that's why we have rules.
Say what you want about regulation, but it does help to level the playing field for the "poor" teams.

Bopolis wrote: I have only vague memories of this, but it is family lore: The day the Packers beat the Chiefs in what would later be called Super Bowl I, I told my grandfather, "The Packers are my team." "Who is your baseball team," he asked. "I don't have one," I said. "It should be the Yankees," he declared. "Because Of Babe Ruth." And so it was. My family has been in northeast Mississippi since just after French times and my grandfather was a Yankees fan from the 1920s until long, long after Reggie Jackson had retired. My mom is the same way (she's told me about skipping school for two things: Elvis Presley and when the Yankees were in the World Series), and she, like my ownself, is also a big fan of the stadium. Its seems that over the years, we've talked as much about the stadium as the team. I went up to New York last September for the last homestand and called her from inside the stadium. I couldn't talk because I was crying so hard. |

Just say NO to a salary cap | #34
|
First of all a salary cap is just unAmerican. It is probably a communist concept or at least socialist.
I don't see the Yankees making the World Series lately so their unlimited spending has helped them. In fact, the Yankees payroll is lower this year than it was last year despite signing the two top free agent pitchers. They shed mucho payroll on deadweight players like Giambi and other goofballs they signed to outrageous contracts. Tampa Bay, Colorado, Detroit and Houston have been to the World Series since the Yankees. The last time the Yankees were in the World Series they lost to Florida. Anyway, having a team for people to hate like the Yankees is good for the sport. It's like raslin'. Having a bad guy creates conflict and produces a much better story line to keep fans interested.

You are right, but as a kid I was a diehard Yankee fan. Reggie Jackson, Goose Gossage, Bucky Dent, Ron Guidry, Catfish Hunter, Thurman Munson, Chambliss,
Nettles, and Willie Randolph. Those were my heroes, then I saw the light and switched my allegiance to the National League in general and to the Braves in
particular.

Ahem. Fuck the Yankees. | #36

But, I just hate'em to hate'em. The only team I really follow doesn't get a lot of their games broadcast down here.
I still imagine a scenario where the 13-0 Rebels are a mere second or two away from kickoff against USC in the Rose Bowl
for all the marbles and then good lord baby Jesus shows up in the clouds to call me and all the other good Rebels home... what do we do? Accept our eternal
glory or stick around to see if our boys can seal the ultimate deal?

Pettitte is going to declare war on and beat down the lowly team associated with draft-dodger George W. Bush tonight in YANKEE STADIUM.
