1. What cop show would be a good comparison? Homicide, NYPD Blue?
2. I can't find it online, does anyone know where to see it besides DVD? I don't have Comcast so On Demand is out.

I have some questions about The Wire |

I never watched it when it was on the air, but there seem to be many fans here.

I've never watched Homicide or NNYPD Blue | #1

The only cop shows I remember watching were Hill Street Blues , The Commish , Hunter , and CSI. I will venture to say that it is like no other "Cop"
show you have seen. Because it really isn't all about the cops. The Wire gives a full on account of the Baltimore streets , the dealers , the bangers ,
the citizens , and the cops. I watched all the seasons as they were aired on HBO . I still watch them on demand.

If you get a chance, you should watch Homicide. | #2

It is the best network cop show ever put on the air.

it sounds good. I loved Hill Street Blues, the only tv show I ever made the ultimate effort to never miss an episode.

What a nostalgic song. Me and mom would make it point to watch this show when I was six( sorry for the age reference Lew ). The only time I was able to stay up
late was for HillStreet Blues.

I would say Homicide is the most similar | #7
|
Same city at least.
The Shield is a favorite of mine and competes with The Wire in quality. Honestly, though, there has not been anything before The Wire which can touch it. |

It will suck you in. Before you start watching the first episode, go ahead and put the second and third seasons on your Netflix queue.
Your favorite sports team scores a game tying point, you find a dollar in the street, you see someone you hate get their ass kicked in public, all of these blissful moments deserve, nay, demand the most communal of public displays of pleasure: The Landshark. |

I don't know if it compares to any really | #9
|
It is a mix, but to echo the best thing about the wire is it really doesn't have a main character, It makes you care about the all the cops (homicide,
narcs, patrol) and all the bad guys (dealers, kingpins) hell it even makes you care about city politics (elections) and the newspapers. I have just begun re
watching it with a friend of mine and he eats it up. I would try isohunt and I very much encourage you to watch it.
Edited to say: I just started watching Southland on NBC, It is pretty gritty, I like what i have seen so far

The Wire is my favorite drama ever, and there's not a close second. Looking forward to David Simon's take on New Orleans, coming soon.

HBO and Showtime have destroyed any reason for me to watch any network series. They can both be much more realistic, and the R-rating allows for nudity, which
when used gratuitously, is always good. The Sopranos, 6 Feet Under, The Wire, Weeds, The Tudors, Big Love, etc. are all far better than anything ABC, NBC, Fox,
or CBS have ever offered. Deadwood, in just 3 seasons, eclipsed anything Gunsmoke did in 20 years. The Wire is well worth the time spent watching it. Hell,
Generation Kill, by the same guy, was pretty good.
