Rule 1 - Has to be feasibly drive-able from Orlando, where I'll be finishing up some work. Rule 2 - Don't give a shit about the "tail" in the destination city. This is the girlfriend's "I love you, this better last your ass 'till after the bowls" trip. Rule 3 - Blue water is a plus, as I've never seen it Rule 4 - I shan't be fishing this go-around, so no matter there Rule 5 - Fuck Miami, I can get shot at home Rule 6 - I think the Keys are too far away Rule 7 - Good food and interesting things are a plus Rule 8 - 1,000 person capacity bars filled with vomiting 22-year-olds is not a plus The Godfrey Show: It's the offseason. Go read a book or something.

Posts: 544 Jun 11, 2009 4:51 PM	Just south of Jacksonville. About 2 hours away from Orlando. Great beaches and not very crowded. Great places to eat. Lulu's, Barbara Jean's, Cruiser's. St. Augustine's about 1 1/2 hours away. Great 'little' city, Spanish Fort, lots of history, never been to the beaches there.

Posts: 2671 Jun 11, 2009 4:52 PM Registered Member	outside of miami, southeast florida is pretty slow. i've spent some time in palm beach proper, and there are good restaurants n shit, but everyone's 80. i guess fort lauderdale is a little livelier, jupiter has it's spots. haven't spent much time on the west coast outside of tampa, which is ok, st. pete and naples which are boring. heard captiva is the same way.

There's a state park in Naples with a really nice beach. I can't recall the name of it right now. I went down to Naples 2 years ago and found it to be relaxing and pretty.

Posts: 379 Jun 11, 2009 7:19 PM	If I were headed somewhere from Orlando, I'd head to the Tampa area. I've only ever seen brown water and sand on the Atlantic side. The sand is white, and the water is often blue/blue-green in the Gulf. Tampa's closer than Miami and you're right, the Keys are something like 6 hours from Orlando. Go stay at the Don Cesar in St. Pete.

Posts: 66 Jun 11, 2009 7:30 PM	it's not what I would call a prime vacation spot but the beach is nice and there is a casino boat, and is 45 minutes from Orlando. Captiva Island is a fairly nice place to visit, but it's on the Gulf. I'll look up some places that we put up customers and get back to you.

Not a spring break destination. It's a beautiful area just across the bay from Sarasota. It's not crowded. Beaches are nice. Water is beautiful. St. Armands has a "circle" kind of like the square with a lot of restaurants and a shit load of shops (which I imagine your girl would like). I highly recommend dinner at Columbia Restaurant on St. Armands Circle.

They have awesome cuban sandwiches and if you like cigars, they still have a lot of stores that roll them by hand in front of you. That area used to roll millions of cigars a year. I don't think it would pass rule 8 though.

Myers and take the Ferry to Key West. You're simply not going to find anything better than Key West, you are basically compromising for convienence going anywhere else. The boat ride is not bad at all.

Posts: 93 Jun 12, 2009 10:09 AM Registered Member	Stay at the Ritz-Carlton in Sarasota and they have a beach club across the bay with all of the amenities and an infinity pool. Sarasota is a great place and like ssmund said - not crowded. Several cool restaurants/bars in Sarasota and across the bridge. Probably 1.5 to 2 hours from Orlando. Beaches are incredible - and there are a good number of young people in the area (so it's got some places that aren't specifically for the retirement set).
