Looking for Music Suggestions |
Lead | ||

So the in-laws gave me a $50 Amazon gift card for my birthday. I'm leaning toward getting some music. I'm into the alt-country Americana genre,
particularly Son Volt, DBT, Ryan Bingham, etc. Any suggestions?

A few suggestions | #2 | ||

Heartless Bastards - Cincinnati, Ohio - garage rock/indie band with alt country influences signed to Fat Possum Records
Dexateens - Tuscaloosa, AL - southern rock/Psychedelic, sound like what would have happened if Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend were born in Alabama. The Low Anthem - Providence, RI - Roots/Americana - Avett Brothers-like folk with blues influence in some of their work.

are good. Orange Blossoms is the latest Mofro album, but Blackwater is really good, too.
Son Volt's latest, American Central Dust, is pretty good if you haven't got it already. It's definitely a departure from the garbage they've put out recently. You can't go wrong with most Jayhawks albums. Tomorrow the Green Grass, Hollywood Town Hall, and Rainy Day Music are all great. Mark Olson and Gary Louris put out a new album in '08 called Ready For the Flood, which is pretty good too. |

I've posted these here before, but since I don't know if you saw them I do it again.
I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists
who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'. Kurt Vonnegut, Timequake, 1997
