No argument here...it is stupid... | #21

it is also suicide that they continue to play on people prejudice and have pretty much screwed themselves out of at least a generation or two of hispanic
voters. In the coming years a republican is going to have to secure more than 2/3 of the white vote to even have a chance to win a national election if they
don't open their tent up a lot. That means allowing dissenting ideas.

This sort of thing always reminds me of La. Gov. Edwin Edwards | #22
|
from back in the day, he stated one time "the only way they can keep me from being reelected is if they catch me in bed with a dead girl or a live
boy".

Sanford did not run on a family values platform. | #23
|
Are you just assuming that because he's a Republican, or have you actually followed his career and noticed him using family values as a crutch to make up
for a lack of real ideas? My guess is the former, as Sanford has demonstrated no lack of real ideas, and I wouldn't be surprised if he has never used the
phrase "family values" in a speech in his life. It certainly has never been his focus.
He built his career on fiscal discipline. When it comes out he has $200k in credit card debt, then you can say he made his bed.

I don't give a shit about the man one way or the other but having your picture made with your family is hardly the same thing as campaigning on a
"Family Values" platform. I dare say most rascally cheating husbands still have family pictures made. Having said that, I don't much care about
the personal lives of politicians as long as it doesn't affect their job performance. What does piss me off is a double standard. People should either be
okay with it or not okay with it regardless of political party.

There's a differenence in having some pictures made with your family during a campaign | #26
|
and touting 'family values' by telling you what your family should be like, look like, act like, not be like
etc.
Rick Rodriguez, Dexter McCluster's H.S. coach: "When the Florida recruiters came down
recruiting Dex, I told them they'd better sign him or he'd come back to bite them in the ass. He bit them in the ass last fall."

Ok, I guess my point is, it won't fly until a candidate runs basically by himself | #27
|
until you don't do family photo ops, put them on your posters and flyers and tv commercials (and yes, his family was in some of his campaign ads, I saw
them) you can't get away with an affair.
Regardless of family values platform, he did not shy away from acting like a perfect family man, and that's what makes him get in trouble for it.

Don't ever worry about being "retardedly optimistic." I don't know of any other way to approach a situation.

South Carolina now has three gay statewide office holders and an adulterer, all Republicans. I could really care less. I like the way Sanford voted. The tax
and spenders in the legislature hate him because he has refused to increase the budget and raise taxes. He can stick his dick wherever he wants as long as he
keeps my taxes low. The bible beaters better be careful of what they wish for. If he resigns, they will have a gay governor (who happens to live across the
street from me).

He got pulled over for DUI one night leaving there. He was in office at the time. Rankin County S.O. either let him go or called somebody to come get him, I
forget which. Lots of our former governors have had some crazy shit going on in their private lives.
