Oxford now looks like County Line Road coupled with UMC. Home Depot plus explosive public works projects. It had been 2 years since I'd been to Oxford, but damn, I didn't recognize the place...primarily because Larry's has a new bar. My old parking lot is now a museum. And the cul de sac leading up to the law school is now a high rise hotel.

Just kidding, I was shocked when I saw the Honors College and Law school. Yeah, the Jackson/Hwy 6 area looks like anytown USA.

I had lived in Oxford for 25 years. It had outgrown its infrastructure in 1995. There is much to be said for living in a place where future growth is a pipe
dream.

It's apt.

from people that have lived in Oxford for 35+ years is that you have one group that's resistant to all forms of growth/change and another group that's
all for growth/change for personal profit and/or political gain.
If they would only meet somewhere in the middle. |

I arrived in Oxford in 96 and graduated in 99. The changes in the last | #7 | ||

decade have been drastic. It is most definitely not what it was. Hell just the changes on campus have been huge. For that matter just the changes to the
stadium have been enormous.

Oxford is trying to play catch up. For thirty years, much like the Ole Miss athletic program, the powers that be sat on their asses and did nothing. This is
the group that was described previously as resistant to all forms of growth/change. Nature won and these fuckers all started to die and that's when the
group that's all for growth/change took over. It doesn't bother me if they are in it for personal profit and/or political gain.
The old farts that did nothing had their own business and coincedentally were also in postions on various boards that would allow a new business like a Wal Mart or some fast food chain to be located in Oxford. So, they were in a postition where they could snuff out any potential competition and it was done for personal profit and/or political gain. |

Mac:I mean the first half of that song was kind of cool, but what's with the second half? Charlie: It's about the Night Man, like, you know, like
filling me up, and I become him, I become the spirit of the Night Man. Mac: But it sounds like a song where a man breaks into your house and rapes you.

I came to oxford in 98 as a student and have not left. It is amazing how much has changed in town and on campus. Jackson Ave. West is an eyesore but I am glad
that the growth has occurred. It would really suck to have to drive to Tupleo or Southaven every time I need to go to Home Depot.

It's nice not to have to drive to Tupelo if you find yourself in need of a trip to a supermarket of some kind at 10 on a Sunday night.
Don't ever worry about being "retardedly optimistic." I don't know of any other way to approach a situation.
