Stolen from Dan Patrick: Mount Rushmore of Music |

Reggie Miller and Patrick were discussing this. The four they came up with to me can't really be argued.

Bono would be the George Washington of a musical Mount Rushmore. | #1
|
On a serious note, I think they should be individuals since the mountain is made up of only individuals. Also, all the individuals listed are from the 20th
century. I think there are probably some composers from the 18th and 19th centuries that would deserve to make the mountain.
I always viewed Michael Jackson as more of a performer than a musician. I'm not impressed with Sinatra either. |

I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists
who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'. Kurt Vonnegut, Timequake, 1997

If he doesn't I will. There is only one Sinatra. Simply the best.

Of that list, only the Beatles really wrote their own music and played the instruments, I think... | #7
|
Can't leave Led Zeppelin off, period. MJ was pretty good, but his sheer entertainment value overshadowed his actual creativity and musical talent. And
Thile, surely you're joking. Surely. I can name several lists of "Four relatively obscure guys from unimportant genres that will make me sound smart
and opinionated," but that's not what we're talking about.

Elvis, MJ, the Beatles, and.....drumroll please....... | #8
|
Roger Miller. RM was the poor man's poet. I am fairly certain that he wrote most if not all of his songs and contributed to many others (without
credit)......King of the Road is the Miller song that most recognize but there are so many great ones. I introduced him to my husband and we have listened to
his Greatest Hits probably 100 times. We have talked about how if people would just live by the 'spirit' in Roger Miller songs we would all be happy as
clams. There are songs other than RM songs that I like better but I don't think there is a musician/artist that I like better.
ETA: Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the Beatles but I recognize their place. If I were to replace them with an American though it would have to be Sinatra.

I think the point was who are "THE" iconic artists of modern music. | #9
|
A list like that could be debated all day long. But the Beatles, MJ and Elvis are pretty much undebatable. They're the very definition of icons. Who has
been bigger in the last 50 years?

I would take Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash in addition to Elvis and Chuck Berry. | #10
|
The hard one for me has been the fourth - I wouldn't put MJ in there personally where it becomes subjective I guess.
Am not sure. Chuck Berry - who i listed as a pioneer of rock n roll? John Lennon or Paul McCartney as the Beatles? Jimmy Page or Robert Plant? Ozzy Osbourne? Someone from Metallica? (No other band has ever had 5 albums debut at #1 on Billboard) Hell even Kurt Cobain. You can look at it so many ways and music always has that subjectiveness to it so ...

Led Zeppelin stole too much music | #12

To be cosidered for that kind of recognition. Now if you want a Rushmore for bands named by Keith Moon then they would be on it. Period.
