Anybody seen "The Letter" that is such a hot topic on The Spirit? |

I have and it is fucking amazing.

Of course it will hurt if several donors hold out big money. | #21

I never said it wouldn't. You're using a continuation rationalization. I'm talking about this one pissed off Spirit poster.
This letter is nothing more than an attempt for him to make himself look like a badass to his fellow Spirit posters. His withholding would have happened if he wrote the letter or not. He could have just as easily just called Robert, George, UMAA, and others.

As to your assertion that this could have been handled with a phone call, you don't handle the dispute of a $150,000 discrepancy and repeated demands to
collect what you consider a wrong and contingent amount with only a phone call. You document your phone calls with correspondence.
One shouldn't assume this is the only letter of this type and tenor from a donor.
Well, I think I'll get saddled up and go looking for a woman. . . . Shouldn't take more than a couple of days.
I'm not picky. As long as she's smart, pretty, and sweet, and gentle, and tender, and refined, and lovely, and carefree...

Yes, that is a very big deal to our athletic department, whether you think it is or not | #23
|
and he didn't publish the letter or why the fuck would he have blanked his name out, so your looking for notoriety theory is fucking ridiculous.
He's not the only bigtime donor doing this. And I'm glad he is. If it gets rid of Boone, it's great for our programs.

I think it was you who alluded to something already being in the works as far as Boone being gone? | #24
|
You may or may not have started it, I cannot remember, but seems like there was a couple who said he was on his way out the door?
Is this why or is it unrelated? Am assuming if he's not the only one then it would be one of the first things Jones does?

I don't know if this is related at all, but I don't expect Boone to be around all too long | #25
|
I think he will be gone not too long after Jones takes over. I've heard Jones and our coaches are on the same page as far as our future and what needs to
be done to get us where we want to be.

this is directly related to the economic downturn.

That's not what the letter says | #27
|
it says he stopped while O was coach, which would have been before the market crashed I believe. He also specifically states it is because of the incompetence
within the athletic department. Of course, he could be lying as you say he is, but that is not what the letter states. He flat out basically says he'll
pay up if changes are made.

This isn't the only letter... | #29
|
Although it's the only one I've actually seen. As I understand it, Khayat responded to the letter saying "all our coaches get along with
Pete", to which Mr. Millette responded back calling BS. Also, I was told that there have been 2 other letters saying almost the exact same thing sent by
2 of our top 5 athletics donors. This is not going to go away. They know that if Nutt leaves, there will be a burning cross in Boone's front yard. And
if you don't think Nutt has Sexton's ears open for a better opportunity, you are fooling yourself.

and I would not blame him for leaving if Boone is still around. I only worry that we hire someone worse than Boone...

Hartwell was promoted for a reason | #31
|
It was to keep Boone away from Nutt and Kennedy.
Boone has two years left on his contract. I doubt he leaves before then. Hartwell keeps Boone away from Nutt and Kennedy. Boone gets to bean count and ride off into the sunset. Jones doesn't have to deal with the Boone/Nutt drama from the word go. That's how things hopefully will happen. |

The letter reads to me that the core issue is he doesn't have the money. | #32
|
He admits it in the first paragraph. The rest of the letter is the typical "Pete Boone is a dickhead" song. I've known a few people in my life
that were dickheads and smart businessmen. Our country was founded by dickheads. This letter is lame.

may keep Boone away from Nutt, but it hasn't kept him away from his assistants. Boone continues to harrass them, and because of that, we still have
a major problem. I would love to think that Nutt wouldn't leave in the next 2 years, but from what I hear (rumors, of course, but from people I
consider "insiders"), I'm not so sure....and the reason I'm told every time is Pete.

Hopefully, he will soon serve as a buffer between Boone and all of football/basketball/baseball operations.

A couple of phone calls? The man was trying to make a statement. | #36
|
If you want to make a statement, you don't make a couple of phone calls, you write a letter. It's basically his op-ed on the general direction of our
athletic department. How is that hard to grasp? Plus, I'd be willing to bet the man has probably made plenty of phone calls already. I saw your post on the
Spirit where you say he just wants people to know he gives a lot of money. The man's name is publicly listed as a major donor in football programs,
baseball programs, etc. It's not like it was a secret anyway.

I knew somebody would respond like this | #37
|
I don't care who you are. Anyone with money tied up in stocks, funds and real estate is dealing with significantly less funds than they were three, four
years ago.
He even hinted at that. This whole pete boone thing is just an excuse to withhold funds in hard economic times. Apparently, he has every right to do so, as was alluded in the "guaranteed," "non-guaranteed" section.

Perhaps he will | #38 | ||
|
I hope so. My guess is that within 2 years, either Boone or Nutt will be gone. I think it's too late for a "buffer" to fix the bad blood that's been created. Hope I'm wrong. |
