I admit ignorance on the Pete Boone discussion as I have been a member on the various boards for less than a year. Plus, as I live outside the state of
Mississippi, I don't have every day interaction with Ole Miss alums. So, could someone please explain where Pete Boone got in the bad graces with the Rebel
nation? Listed bullet points would be fine. I'm sure many of you are scholars on the matter.....

The main complaint about boone is his miserly ways. He's a penny pincher at least thats what he is known publicly for doing. Also the handling of the
attempted Colonel Reb mascot change was a joke. I'm sure there are more reasons but those are 2 of his biggest flaws that are discussed.

As of right now, Summer 2009, Ole Miss athletics are in better shape than they have been in during most of our lifetimes.
Baseball: Some of the best facilities in the nation and one game away from Omaha. SEC champs. Basketball: Probably have the best coach we could get considering our pathetic support. Warren, White, and EP will be the best perimeter in Ole Miss history next year. Football: Coming off a Cotton Bowl win, we are a consensus Top 10 team in the pre-season. And we never sold out a game last year. Boone's budget is pitifully small compared to the rest of the conference, but he gets hammered for penny-pinching. The important part of the mascot debacle was that he DID get rid of Colonel Reb, which needed to be done. Nobody in outside of Mississippi remembers the pathetic mascot search but the national perception will only get better without the plantation owner on the sideline. |

from what I've heard, he pinches pennies on stuff like rental cars on recruiting trips, cell phones for GAs, etc, in footbal; he let the basketball team
practice before the media with buckets on the court of the Sad Pad catching rainwater pouring in through leaks; and he took the blame for scaling down the
baseball stadium renovation and the delay of same.
but most hate him for the bungle job on canning Colonel Reb. I, for one, agreed the symbol needed to go, but he sure complicated it with the ridiculous proposed replacements. for a while, I heard he and his wife didn't dare eat out in public in Oxford to avoid the berating fans. other than that, he's a prince of a guy. |

I've obviously heard the numerous issues of Pete being cheap. For instance, the bus to LSU breaking down, etc. However, many people (on the Spirit)
consistently talk about disagreements between Boone and the head coaches. I've never heard of any such disagreements from reliable sources. Mainly just
sounds like hearsay, to me. Enlighten me.

He's great at counting beans. If running an athletic department was about counting beans, he'd be great at it. Unfortunately for him and for us, there is a lot more to running an athletic department than counting beans. He has pissed Nutt off repeatedly. He fired an intern who came to Ole Miss from Arkansas with Nutt. Boone bitched to Nutt when Nutt sent him a bill for some dry erase boards he bought for the practice fields (less than $200.00). He said we had plenty of dry erase boards in the IPF. Unfortunately, they are attached to the wall and the coaches wanted some on the field. Boone bitched to Kennedy when a staffer bought business cards and they sent Boone the bill. We already had a printing contract. Okay, that may be true, but pick your fucking battles. Couple all the chickenshit with his generally unpleasant demeanor, and you have what we have. An AD, and then an assistant AD in charge of the big three sports. There is a reason we have that now. |

Is Colonel Reb really gone? Yeah, he's not in the stadium anymore, but I still see a lot of OM apparel with him still on it. And of course the dude in the suit walking around on campus. So, did he REALLY get rid of him? edit: I don't care one way or the other on the mascot.

And I have to agree with him on that one...why in the world do managers (that is what they were) need business cards? The Coaches have business cards, the
Coordinator of Ops has business cards, the Trainer and SID have business cards...why in the world would a manager or a even a GA need business cards?

Scheduling.
Last fucking minute schedule finish and we end up playing TWO Div1AA teams (or, whatever they call themselves these days). This, alone, should end all discussion. Home and home with Wyoming... Wyoming, really? I understand, and agree, with the money from 1 crap game yearly for the revenue. There's no excuse for playing two 1AA teams in a year and little reason to play home and homes with Wyoming. Boone should have balled up and givin a home and home deal to Colorado or TCU since he'd already fucked the schedule this year. Playing Colorado home and home would have been MUCH better than playing two fucking 1AA teams in the same year. a chest like that is much more important than tennis. Nobody cares about tennis. Everyone cares about boobs. ~Beatdown

There are plenty of things to bitch about Pete without falsifying events. I don't know about the erase boards, it could be, but Orgeron and his staff had on-the-field dry erase boards. I assume those were still there...but knowing that staff, they could have been taking the ones from the wall and carrying them to the field.

You are correct. The schedule debacle leaves no doubt that Pete Boone is a dumbass. Not to mention that when you have a coach who has done for our program what
Nutt and crew have, in one year no less, you motherfucking get along with them instead of waving your dick around trying to prove what a big man you are.
