TV number one
TV number two
I'm firmly staying within the $700 range - not a penny over. This is just for a bedroom, so I don't need anything really fancy.
Is there any discernible difference between these two, besides the size?

I've narrowed it down between these two TVs:

What two? | #1 | ||

Your choices are not showing up. Just for the record you might want to consider a plasma for your bedroom. I have a 37in panasonic plasma (3 years old) and it
is a great tv and at this point probably under your $700 budget.

If you're using a cable box, go bigger and cheaper | #2
|
I'd rather have bigger and an off brand, personally. I swear the cable box seems to make more difference than the brand when I've looked at it.
Though I doubt you need bigger for a bedroom. Just try a vizio, I've honestly heard nothing but good reviews, and they're cheap. VIZIO

Neither is rated on newegg and were considerably higher. Cnet shows the same pros and cons for each | #4
|
The good: Accurate color; extensive picture controls including unique Picture Wizard; adequate connectivity with three HDMI and one PC input; energy-efficient. The bad: Reproduces relatively light black levels; below-average uniformity and off-angle viewing; no S-Video input. The bottom line: While its black levels and uniformity mark the LG LH30 series as an entry-level display, its extensive picture controls allow the color accuracy of a flagship model.

Black levels... | #5 | ||
|
I take it the better the black levels, the better the depth and richness of the color?
This is my first TV purchase since I drunkenly bought a TV in college, so a lot of this is lost on me.

Well I guess they don't make the 37" any more - All 40 + now on the Plasma's. Might want to consider this TV - Much better than either of your
choices.

You don't need a 1080p for a TV that small | #8
|
Unless, of course, you're planning on sitting 2 feet away from it. The human eye can't perceive the difference from more than a few feet back.
That said, I have the 42" version of this TV, and I really like it. I'd go ahead and get the 37" Edit: Link to the viewing distance chart

They used Passion of the Christ in their review (link below) Black level: Despite all of those controls, the essential black level performance of the LG 42LH30 left something to be desired. During the initial scenes in the garden, or example, dark areas like the letterbox bars, the trees and the dark garb of the disciples appeared lighter and ore washed-out than on any of the other displays. Details in shadows, such as the side of Christ's bearded face as he prays, also appeared a bit less distinct than on the Panasonic plasma, although they were still quite realistic and looked slightly better than the Samsung LCD.I didn't spend a whole lot of time looking through tech specs or anything, just used newegg /w free shipping and looked for a tv that had a lot of good reviews. Then would double check it with Cnet to see if they had a review. Those two are pretty much the same tv (same series), just size is different. http://reviews.cnet.com/f...505-6482_7-33561700.html

I just bought a Sony 32" Bravia from BB for my bedroom and I like it.
For $500 bucks and a bedroom tv, you can't go wrong. My only complaint is that I sometimes put a floor fan on, and have to turn the volume up. The volume
is okay in my bedroom, but deafening in the hallway. Personally, I think the 32" is a great size for a bedroom. Between the two LG's, I'd go for
the 37" as its only $30 more.

I agree with OMAMS. You won't be able to tell the difference between | #11

720p and 1080p at those sizes. Here are a couple of other LG choices.
Basically the same 37" with a different model number. Basically the same 32" but in 720p. I also have a 32" Vizio I got for 329.99 from Walmart and it is a very nice TV. ETA: I captioned those links backwards, but you'll figure it out.

if you can go higher than 60 Hz, do it. | #12

the higher the hertz, the better moving pictures look. this is especially noticable when watching sports and live action.

sports is better on 1080i rather than 1080p | #13

interesting. luckily, that's what my new tv is... | #14

now, if i could just find a way to mount the tv on the brick wall and figure out someway to hide the cables that have to run to the box...

37" | #15 | ||

In that size you dont have much choice in LCDs, its going to be 1080p, which is a good thing but the 37 will make a big difference compared to the 32.
That line of LG has the S-IPS Panel in it, which is second only to the panels used by panny. Gotten very good reviews for viewing angles, and good black levels for a LCD. considering.. | #16

the other two models they were comparing it to were a plasma and the top of the line Panny..it held up pretty well.
Here is a good start for the settings, to get the best picture http://forums.cnet.com/5208-19410_102-0.html?threadID=340770 |

Highly unlikely.. | #17 | ||
|
unless you bought an old CRT style tv...if it is LCD, Plasma, DLP...or any of the new PROGRESSIVE technologies..it is P.
and as far as sports goes, OP4 technically that is wrong...as 720P is better at handling motion, 1080i is interlacing and subject to blurring and artificats more frequent.. In fact, ABC and ESPN broadcast in 720p, meanwhile CBS and NBC are in 1080i Ideally, you would like to have the same native resolution at both ends to keep excess conversion from one to another. But thats not a logical solution. In the end, when your picture comes down at 720p or 1080i , it will have to be upscaled to 1080p if thats your native resolution. |

37 inches is overkill | #18

Bedrooms are for sleeping and sexing. TVs distract from both.
Just get the 32" 720 Vizio, save $300 and buy another season ticket in the Nafoom section. LINK

I thought 720p and 1080i were basically the same thing? | #19
|
The point is, sports is better in that format than in 1080p, which is why no one is trying very hard to broadcast sports in 1080p.
