I need to register a website. What is the best most cost effective (cheapest) way to do it? A site like godaddy.com?

Pay for a WYSIWYG | #1 | ||

It's software that is a "What you see is what you get". It takes html or other code and converts it into images that you can edit as if you were
building a power point or sales literature. You can buy something like Adobe Contribute for a couple hundred bucks and you'll be set.
You can register a domain name with a service like godaddy. It's cheap as shit to do it for a year. In the interest of saving money, I wouldn't pay for a hosting account until you've got your site built. As for hosting, it all depends on what kind of site and what sort of traffic you are going to get. OP can probably answer this shit better than anyone on the board. I'd wait for him to chime in.

If you try to get out for under $100 on the whole thing, you're going to look like you designed a web site on the cheap.
With all respect to RebeheadedStranger, a WYSIWYG editor is a waste of money. You're better off using a text editor and a free photo editor like GIMP to design your web site. Web design, stuff that looks good, isn't cheap. If you can better define what you need from your web site I can give you more advice. If you need a site, that will have updates, content, photos, videos etc. you're going to need a CMS. If you just need a single page, then you might be able to do it on your own.

Buy the domain through GoDaddy... | #3 | ||

As rebheaded said, it just depends on what you want your site to be. If you just want it to be an informational site and just to have something out there, get
the cheapesat godaddy hosting option they have. It's like $4/month. I think that GoDaddy even has template sites where you can just fill in the
information like filling out a form. It won't look unbelievable but you will have a site out there.
If you plan to have a more robust site with graphic intense design, you will probably need to pay someone. You can do a lot, especially as a beginner, with Microsoft Sharepoint Designer.
I support the two most frustrating teams in America: The New Orleans Saints and the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

...and what you consider "cheap".
If you are just wanting the normal blog site, with forums, and the like, you are really after a hosted Content Management System (CMS). These come in different flavors, but are all very easy to set up and maintain, while coming with different extensions or modules to perform various tasks. They are, for the most part, open source, and most any web host can set one up for you. The most popular is Joomla, or Drupal. Do a web search on these two to get some idea what you are looking at. If this is more for a business purpose, and you will be using it to sell product, don't waste your time trying to build one. Get in touch with a web host that has experience with commercial web sites, and have them set something up for you. It might seem expensive at first, but if you have no experience with .asp or .net, you are going to waste a lot of time. I have my stuff hosted for about $80.00 a year, and that is unlimited storage and unlimited bandwidth. The tech support with my host is somewhat spotty, which is why I'm not going to recommend them. Stay with a bigger company. I started my research at a site like http://www.hosting-review...overture&KID=5199883 Its all a crap shoot. Just try to find a host that has some kind of telephone support. Mine only does email support, so if I have problems, it takes a couple of days for me to get any resolution. Thats fine for me, since I don't have anything critical. If you are supporting a business, no phone support is unacceptable. Good luck. kbanes |

I'm sure he could set you up with something pretty reasonably priced.
