If Federer beats Roddick, is he the greatest of all time? Conversely, if Roddick... |

beats Federer, is it one of the biggest upsets in a Major final of all time?

He's better than Sampras. I don't know about all the rest but | #1

I appreciate the diversion.

I am a big sampras fan | #2 | ||
|
but Federer is the best.....regardless if he wins Sunday. He almost lost it a couple of years ago....but he regained his form and is the best shot maker to
ever roam any given court.

He made a strong case for being "the greatest" when he finally won on clay in the French Open | #3

But a win over Roddick on Sunday would make it hard to argue at all.

Yes, on both counts. | #4 | ||

With the exception that I think he's the greatest of all time regardless of whether he wins tomorrow. I generally will pull for the American, but have
never been a big Roddick fan....not sure why, and I love Federer and would like for him to beat Sampras record. I never miss the men's Wimbledon
final.....hope I can get my hungover ass out of the bed early enough Sunday morning.

God I hope Roddick wins, | #5

I'm a huge fan, and it seems he peaked right at the "jordan" era of his sport. I think his game has improved but you never know because of the
history.
By the way did everybody get hosed with the Roddick v Maury coverage today or was it just me? They showed the fucking final match from last year during the match. |

Federer is already the greatest of all time. And if Roddick wins, I don't consider it a major upset. It's an upset no doubt but Roddick has the ability
to beat Federer if his serve is on.
I support the two most frustrating teams in America: The New Orleans Saints and the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

I have to agree..... | #7 | ||

Federer is already the greatest all time, he might reach 20 majors. Been to the finals at Wimbledon 7 straight times, 16 of the last 17 grand slam finals.
Having said all that i still loathe him and wish him defeat sunday morning, my ass will be watching, as I have the last two times he whipped Roddick's ass.

Regardless of what happens in this match, Fed is already the greatest of all time | #8

because nbc | #9 | ||

has the worst sports coverage of all time. they get first pick and espn can show the other match live. nbc won't preempt the today show for a live tennis
match.

Federer is already the best ever. | #10
|
1. Tied for most major titles with 14.
2. One of only 6 players to win all 4 majors, and 4 of those did it when 3 of the 4 majors were played on grass. 3. The most astounding record of all. He's been to the semifinals of 21 straight majors. The second longest streak in tennis history is 10. The second longest current streak is 1. 4. Ranked #1 for a record 237 consecutive weeks. 5. By far the most successful 3-year streak in tennis history when he lost only 14 matches in 3 years, while winning well over 200. |

Going to be hard for Federer to even be the best in his era | #11

if Nadal stays healthy and continues his head to head dominance.

Get back with me when Nadal wins 10 more grand slam titles, | #12
|
and wins the career grand slam. As it stands, he's a dominant clay court player, and a very good overall player in historical terms. But no where near the
greatest ever or of this era.

OK... | #13 | ||
|
bear in mind he's won 3 in the past 14 months while sitting this one out, and is over 5 years younger than Federer. I believe Federer had one Grand Slam
title when he was at Nadal's current age.
I'm no tennis expert, I'm just quoting those self professed ones...McEnroe said Nadal could put that record out there were nobody will ever reach it. I guess we'll see, at this point it's alot like the AROD/Bonds argument relative to the all time HR record, except this one is still pure and really matters. I guess Woods/Nick would be the better comparison, it's almost inevitable that it falls and the mystery is how far the next guy sets the benchmark. |

Currently, Nadal's style of play doesn't lend itself... | #14
|
to a type of a career that stands the test of the time. A lot of his play is depended on pure court coverage and that is something that will only get worse
with time.
I support the two most frustrating teams in America: The New Orleans Saints and the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Exactly DS. | #15 | ||
|
The only year in Nadal's career his knees haven't given out on him by late July was 2008. And this year they gave out on him earlier than ever. He's a great player, but his time at the top is short-lived (as many including myself have predicted for a couple of years). I like him and respect him a lot for the work he puts into the game and the respect he has for the game, but he'll never in a million years come anywhere near Federer's 15 Grand Slam titles, much less his record of 21 straight semi-final appearance. To look at it from a slightly differenct perspective, Federer not only holds the record for consecutive Grand Slam finals, he also is in 2nd place all time in that category. I hope I'm wrong about Nadal, but I really think his best days are behind him. |
