Fullerton Regional
Host: Cal State Fullerton
1. Cal State Fullerton (Big West Automatic)
4. Xavier (A-10 Automatic)
2. California (Pac 10 at large)
3. Ole Miss (SEC at large)
I think our chances would be best in the following regionals assuming we replace the existing 3 seed:
1) Ann Arbor - The NCAA just has to blow some team from the Big 10, and this year it is Michigan. A year later and they are still living off the upset of
Vandy. As it stands right now, Texas has got to be ecstatic over that placement. Replacing Texas with Ole Miss would be very, very good for the Rebels.
2) San Diego - San Diego hosted a regional last year as the #1 seed and went 0-2 if I'm not mistaken. PETCO is a hitter's nightmare which won't
hurt us since we are not a gorilla ball team, but this will definitely help our pitching. Can you imaged LL, DP and CS pitching in that cavern? Arizona has had
a similar season to Ole Miss in as much they started the season with high expectations but have not lived up to said expectations. Puts a lot of pressure on
them being the #1 seed. Replace SDSU with Ole Miss and I like our chances.
(3) Raleigh - NC State is getting a regional for no other reason than they play in the ACC and it is by far the strongest conference this year. Of the 4 ACC
schools hosting, they are weakest. The ACC holds 3 of the top 8 seeds. I think Ole Miss could be as high as a #2 seed in this regional, but staying in line
with the current analogy, replacing Elon with Ole Miss at the #3 with #1 NC State and #2 ECU and I feel we could win it all.
(4) Lincoln - For no other reason than money, the NCAA gives Nebraska a regional almost every year. The NCAA props them up by hosting hoping to capitalize on
the home state team story (money). More often than not, Nebraska fails to capitalize on the freebie. Nebraska is the only one of the top 8 regionals that I
think we could even come close to winning. Wichita State is forever more taking a bendover job on this placement. How in the hell can you be a Top 10 team and
not be a #1 seed in a regional? Replace UCLA with Ole Miss, capitalize on Wichita State's screwjob, and with any luck we might could win this regional.
As you can tell, I'm not real interested in Ole Miss being in a regional where I can travel and watch them with relative ease. I want them in a regional
that would give them the best chance at winning. If I have to watch them on TV, then so be it.
Of course, I wouldn't mind a little "blind hog finds a nut you got to be fucking kidding me MSU luck" either.
we go from a #2 in the country to getting sent to cal for the regional
once again our hopes and dreams of getting to the cws are gone!
Not necessarily. Last year, Louisville went to the CWS as a 3 seed. And of course the national champion, Oregon State, was a 3 seed as well. Oregon State was
actually similar to our situation this year. They had high expectations, faltered, and honestly, they were a bubble team that got a bid in large part due to
the fact that they were the defending champs. They even lost early in regional play and had to come out of the loser's bracket of their regional just to
get to a Super, and they didn't lose another game the whole tourney.
Granted, I think our chances of doing that are between slim and none, but it's baseball, and anything can happen in a short series/double elimination
event.
"You believe a 4-seed Fresno State was as talented through and through as Georgia (top SS, top closer, and several other
draftees)?" - WillemWallace, 7-10-08, just weeks after Fresno State outscored Georgia 31-18 in the College World Series Finals to win the National
Championship.
we havent had the consistant bats or pitching to come from the losers bracket and make a run at the cws
just feels like its another year of building up the hopes to only fall off the cliffs w/pete boones boot in the fans arse.
i want to get on a soapbox of how olemiss has done this to the fans again and again, but it wouldnt do any good
so fuck me for being a fan
I agree, and I'm actually predicting that we win the 2/3 game with Lynn pitching. Then I'm predicting Pomeranz to have an unreal game to beat our 1
seed in the winner's bracket game. Then, most of us will get back on the wagon talking about how maybe we're about to go to another Super Regional,
only 2 wins from Omaha. And to make matters worse, the 1 seed in the other bracket matched up with ours will go 0-2 making us all think that maybe we'll
even get to host a Super Regional. Meanwhile, we'll face the No. 4 and No. 5 pitchers from the No. 1 seed in the championship round, and we'll score a
combined 3 runs over two games losing both in blowout fashion as Satterwhite and Bukvich get lit up, sending us home.
Even if we had the team to be able to make a run, it wouldn't happen, because WE ARE...OLE MISS.
I think we will end up better than a number 3 seed. If we eke out a winning record in the SEC (which would almost certainly win the west), I think we get a
number 2. Since there are several number 1's that cannot or will not host, that gives us a shot to host, but I doubt it would happen. Hell, I like our
chances to win some in the cavernous park in Hoover (where teams like Kentucky and South Carolina always come a cropper) as long as we can stay away from Vandy
and Georgia. But I think we almost have to win the west to get into the tournament, because we could easily lose a tie breaker if there is a log jam at 15-15,
14-16, etc.
Recall Rick Cleveland's article predicting that his beloved USM will host a regional. Nothing would make me happier to get sent to the Hattiesburg
regional. They got sent up here two out of the last three years; and I see no reason why we would not be sent down there.

"You know, you don't have-a a patron saint for the United States, but there are some American saints. Just the last couple of years they made-a some. The first was-a about-a two years ago. Her name was-a Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton. Mother Seton-is-a what they call her. And she's got-a these nuns of her own order who lobby-they're real heavy-they came to Rome and everything. And it's amazing, you see. To be made a saint in-a the catholic church, you have to have-a four miracles. That's-a the rules, you know. It's-a always been that-a. Four miracles, and-a to prove it. Well, this-a Mother Seton-now they could only prove-a three miracles. But the Pope-he just waved the fourth one. He just waved it! And do you know why? It's-a because she was American. It's all-a politics. We got-a some Italian-a people, they got-a forty, fifty, sixty miracles to their name. They can't-a get in just cause they say there's already too many Italian saints, and this woman comes along with-a three lousy miracles. I understand that-a two of them was-a card tricks."
