Anyone been to Winnipeg / Edmonton / Calgary? |
Lead | |||||
|
I'm basically going on a tour of central Canada in about a month for work. I'll be in Winnipeg, Edmonton, and Calgary for a few days each. Any going
out / food / hotel / attractions advice? I hear this is the place for that kind of thing.

I can ask a couple friends, Calgary's supposedly pretty cool these days | #1
|
If I can get in touch with some friends that go there from time to time I'll post up. I remember hearing that Calgary has been growing ridiculously fast,
and has plenty to do.

Probably too far but ... | #2

but Banff and Lake Louise are two of the nicest places in the northern hemisphere. Maybe an hour or so from Calgary.

My father recommended Banff, and said it was awesome. So hopefully I'll be able to check that out. Thanks.

Back during the days when I wanted to be a cowboy when I grew up, I made the | #5

Calgary Stampede a few times but that was a million years ago now it seems. I was a steer wrestler but mainly, I just liked the cowgirls.

I will be there for the Calgary Stampede. Are Canadian girls as easy as I hear they are? I plan on milking the whole Mississippi accent thing. Is that a bad
idea? It's done well in northern U.S. cities like D.C. and Buffalo.

Canadian Rockies are amazing | #7

they're a lot like our rockies.... with a lot less Denver, Boise, & Cheyenne. (right that down if you want to)
Banff nat'l park is well worth seeing.. but do it eco-tourist style, and don't get sucked into the tourist trap part of it...

ESPN Announcer: So Roy, where have you been for the last fifteen years? Roy: Well, I uh, well, ya see, I uh... Drinking. Lot a drinking. ESPN Announcer: I see. Well, are you still drinking? Roy: No. I uh... I put... uh... Why, you buying?

Hoka and I are on the same Wavelength with Banff and Lake Louise. There is no | #8

place I can think of that is prettier, but if you get sucked into the whole lodge thing, there are no tourist more annoying. As to Cannuck girls being easy
during the Stampede, I would be careful. I am pretty sure that every hooker in Canada and most of the pros from Seattle head to Calgary for the Stampede.
Double bag it to be safe.

All three of those places are in my coverage area for work | #9

Winnipeg is not much fun, the downtown area is really cool and I would advise you to stay at the Delta hotel dowtown. They have a Elephant and Castle Pub in
the hotel and its the hot spot after work. Edmonton is a great place to see especially right now. There is the largest mall in the world there with a pretty
cool indoor waterpark and other stuff. The night life I cant tell you too much about because it was damn cold when I was there last and I didnt get out.
Calgary and the area around it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. The nightlife there is pretty cool especially now that winter is
ALMOST over.

Canadian Rockies are nothing like our Rockies | #10

They're better. Bigger, more jagged, more majestic.

Western Canada is beyond spectacular | #11

But if its east of Calgary you want, add Drumheller on the list of things to see. Neat place, like a mini - and I mean real mini - Grand Canyon.. in the middle
of a place where you wouldn't expect a canyon. And there's lots of dinosaur related stuff around there. The area is rich in dino-era stuff.

same week as our Wake Forest game, because I was planning on seeing them. Which may work out, because now I don't really have to worry about hanging with
the fam there.

Winnipeg: The Forks is cool. Great restaurants and bars. | #13
|
Spent a week up there a few summers ago.
They have a nice French area that's cool to tour. Winnipeg is a nice break in August. It can be 100 degrees in MS or anywhere else in the US, but it can get down in the 40s at night up there. Mosquitoes the size of bluejays are a real problem on a warm summer day. They will eat you alive in Manitoba. |
