A loyal Rebel passes away
Earl Solomon, Jr. of Greenville passed away today. There was no more ardent Rebel fan. I was fortunate to be among a group of young people Earl took to the 1968 Liberty Bowl, in which Archie rallied the team from a 17-0 halftime deficit to a 34-17 win. It was typically cold for that Liberty Bowl, and we kids went to Earl's car at halftime while he braved the elements to ignite the comeback. We listened in the car and returned when the tide turned. He graciously accepted the return of the fair-weather fans. He also forgave my going away to LSU, and we enjoyed many games in that great rivalry together.
He was a great family man and a great friend. He will be missed.
