Where does oil bottom? |
Lead | ||
|
It slipped below $50/ barrell today. Seems like the bottom has to be close.....even if it stays there for a while. Maybe about time to load up on an oil
ETF......for those who still have some cash.

I don't shop much | #21 | ||
|
Since you are so happy with what you drive do you even shop much? You just keep buying the same thing. I think the G6 and Malibu for GM look ok. You should
like them. They are kind of patterned after the Asian car look and they get the high mileage. The new GM 3.8 engines have a feature that cuts cylinders out on
the highway which gets the mileage up. I have a Pontiac with a 3.8 that got 30+ mpg on a 1500 mile trip. It had 140K miles and never been tuned up. So they
are out there. Everyone has their own perception on what they think is best and don't look for anything else. I am guilty of that. I am strictly a GM
person. That is all I have ever owned. But I don't necessary think they have the best product but I do believe they have competitive products.
For the record I think the Pontiac G8 is the best looking car on the road or on the lot. They ain't selling. The donwfall is even the V6 engine is not as efficient as the GM 3.8 engine. I am preparing to buy but I am looking for a low mileage program car. I actually have a dealer trying to find what I want. But no one will answer the question about where do the profits go? If you don't care just say "I don't give a fuck" and I will move on to BEATING THE HELL OUT OF LSU. |

The profits go to the companies that sell that most cars for the best prices to the most people | #22

Is that what you're looking for? And like any smart industry, the ones that do well are the ones that invest the most in the most valuable places...like design and engineering and not over-priced, yet patriotic labor. They claim the new UAW contract brings those labor costs more in line with the rest of the world, but that's about 30 years too late. The Big Three have turned into more of a New Deal WPA than a viable, globally comepetitive industry, and the only the reason they're still around is that nobody can figure out how to employ that number of blue collar workers at a wage that Americans believe they're deserving of without the auto industry. |

the Malibu? Really? Compared to a Maxima? Dude... | #23

I love what I have, but I still keep my eyes open, and do research. It's the only smart way to do it.

Not ONE domestic car can compete | #24

with the style of the Nissan product or the quality and reputation of the Toyota or Honda product.
In the late 90's and very early 2000's Ford and general Motors dominated the Tuck and fuull sized SUV markets and those markets paid strong. They didn't spend their money in developing new product in the car market and when they did "new Taurus ??" and the new Malibu was non inspiring in terms of style and wasn't close in terms of quality to Toyota,Honda and Nissan. Nissan just came out with a Versa 1.6 liter that has a STICKER PRICE of less than 10 grand. That's right. less than 10 grand and it gets 38 -40 miles to the gallon. before the gas thing hit , Nissan was developing a diesel engine to be outfitted in a heavy duty truck to be sold in North America. Their companies are nowhere near as layered as the detroit 3 and the japanese automakers have everybody by the balls with the quality of their product and they have more shit like the 10k Versa in the pipeline. GM,Ford and Chrysler don't stand a chance , you can't even tax up the japanese because the majority of their product is made right here in the United States by Americans that are paid a fair wage. They just do it better and now its over.

I am not going to argue about perceptions | #25
|
I am just telling you what I have seen first hand for the last 15 in years of working with both sides on various projects. The Asians do not have a
technological advantage over the U.S.
So OP4 a Malibu doesn't match up to a Maxima? I really have only looked at both from afar so I have nothing to go on. They look similar to me. No offence meant. |

Again, the Consumer Reports surveys aren't based on perceptions. | #26

I do agree about the Malibu though. It's not an exciting car by any means, but if you want a good sedan, it's a good choice. Not as good as the
Maxima, but a hell of a lot cheaper.

Then a coop of the oil companies and big three bought it out and shut it down. I'm with you on letting them go to hell. I hear Amsterdam is great, you can see everyone on bikes just kind of cruising along, young and old. |

before that, it was a Pathfinder. I would second what has already been posted about the Pathfinder. I intend on my present Maxima (2002, 80K miles) for a
while. And then, I will buy another one.

for a lot less. I would have guessed a heated steering wheel was useless, but man, it's pretty cool when it's freezing outside. Plus it's fast
as hell, rides incredibly, and even has a great stereo. And gets relatively decent gas mileage.

so I didn't get to hand pick everything. Its not fully loaded, but that's not a bad thing to me. I could get used to the heated steering wheel but I
hate leather seats.
It does however have the Bose Stereo, and it is fucking awesome. Everybody that rides it in comments on how smooth the ride is. And man does it fly. |

an in-dash GPS. It would come in handy living in a new city. I think the 2009 looks pretty good too, I'll probably get one in a year or so when people
start trading them back in.

So I won't be buying a car for a while. But I don't need one either. While I like the new body styles, it will more than likely change by the time I
buy another one. As far as GPS, by the time I buy another car, that will as standard as a CD player.
