I'm training for my first Marathon right now. There is an under amour app called Run Trainer (reply)
I'm about 2 months in. The app plans your week for you. The first few weeks were mixes of walk /run and it gradually steps it up from there. 2 months in and I'm crushing 10-12 minute miles over a 90 minute period some days. That would...

Funny. (reply)
I guess that write up did seem a bit much.  I miss days of working out all the time, eat things I shouldn't, drink too much, etc.  However, I do get that many steps in every day.  It does not take a lot of time when you move around a...

Rosebowl mad. (topic)
Normally I wouldn't waste my time listening to a thing that loser has to say on his podcast, but the last few minutes of today's Boneyard are GOLD.  He's all butthurt because he claims his sobriety has been challenged and is offering to...

Re: Ask NAFOOM: Tips to start running for exercise (reply)
Lots of good advice in this thread.  I am pretty much in the same age bracket as you (48).  I play basketball 3 times a week for 1 to 1.5 hrs per time and it is usually full court. I also lift weights 3 days a week and do distance cardio...

It's still not an efficient way to burn calories (reply)
No one has time to walk much more than hour everyday and you're barely burning off your pre-dinner drinks.  I do agree on run/walking being a better way to build up endurance and not strain yourself as bad.Swimming for 30 min at a...

for the links and recomendations. I've been wearing this site www.yosemitehikes.com out. I really like the way it rates the trails for difficulty, crowds, and scenery. Glacier Point, Tunnel View, and the Lower Yosemite Falls are already...

Yosemite (reply)
1. The scale of Yosemite is astounding, with the big walls (El Capitan, Half Dome, etc.) on both sides of the valley and the size of the waterfalls making you realize how tiny a speck on this earth you really are.  Soak it in.  Hiking...

Eh, it's not as different as you may think. And walking burns about 100 calories/mile (reply)
So if you walk at 20min/mile, you'll burn 300 in an hour, which is two beers.   Iirc it's about a 25% difference between running and walking.    There are some studies however that seem to show the combo of running and walking may be...

and have been running since I was 13.  Take it slow at first.  Run, walk, run walk and slowly build up the running with less walking.  Always listen to your body and always use good running shoes.  My favorite is Asics Cumulus.  Try not...

I ran track in college, but have not run consistently since.  I had not run since October 2015.  Started back about 3 weeks ago.  Things that have helped me so far:1) find a place that's flat; hills are a killer when you're just getting...
