I need to get a suit jacket altered. Is there anywhere in Oxford that will do it for a decent price?

I think it's been discussed before, but I couldn't find it so I'll bring it up again:
I need to get a suit jacket altered. Is there anywhere in Oxford that will do it for a decent price?
Your favorite sports team scores a game tying point, you find a dollar in the street, you see someone you hate get their ass kicked in public, all of these blissful moments deserve, nay, demand the most communal of public displays of pleasure: The Landshark. |

They can usually do that at Drycleaners | #1

I think I've had stuff altered at Rainbow before.

You could also ask Neilson's who they use, if they don't do it in-house. | #2
|
I'm sure they would be top notch. And if they do it in-house, that person probably does some work on the side.
Rick Rodriguez, Dexter McCluster's H.S. coach: "When the Florida recruiters came down
recruiting Dex, I told them they'd better sign him or he'd come back to bite them in the ass. He bit them in the ass last fall."

Peggy's Alterations on the right before you get to Beacon in that shopping center is pretty cheap and quick. I actually dropped off some jeans there today
for reconstructive pocket surgery and will get them back 1 week. Square Alterations takes forever. Not sure about the cleaners.

If you need more than sleeves altered I would ......... | #6
|
........... take it to either Nielson's or Hinton and Hinton. Anywhere that sells nice suits would be good.
A good tailor can be hard to find these days. I know plenty here in Memphis but none by name in Oxford. I'm sure the two stores I mentioned above have a decent tailor.....I would hope so anyway considering the price of their merchandise. Nothing looks worse than a poor fitting suit so don't go to cheap route. |

One of the better haberdasheries in Oxford would be your safest bet, with Hinton & Hinton probably in the lead.
If the dry cleaners in Oxford alter clothes as poorly as they launder them, I would avoid them at all costs. If you bought it at New York Suit Exchange or S&K, I'd just throw the suit in the trash. |

......... if you're looking to buy something downtown Lansky Bros. or Shelton Clothier will have a good tailor on staff. But don't take something you
bought at NY Suit Exchange there, if you know what I mean.
If you have already purchased something and need to have it tailored: Vernell Williams, Joseph Bank at Poplar-Kirby, is probably the best one I know of. He is fast and does great work....especially cuffs and jacket work if you have an unusual frame. By fast I mean 1-2 weeks....pretty good for a busy tailor shop. Richard Kapatia has been around a while....his shop is called Alicia's Alterations. They are out in Germantown somewhere. Richard's brother PK is located on Poplar Ave. between Perkins and Colonial. Great work, good turn-around time, but slightly more expensive. He will rush things for you but you pay for it. I've never had a bad experience with any of these guys. Hope this helps. |

there's a little place right by the Morgan Keegan tower. On Jefferson? maybe? | #12
|
The street right before the morgan keegan tower if you are going south on Front. Maybe it's Washington. But there's a little alterations place there
and she does a good job.
I don't know if I'd have her completely redesign a suit, but she does good work on most alterations.

across from Wal-Mart does in house tailoring. They carry mostly big and tall clothes and are very reasonably priced on alterations and custom ordered/fitted
suits.
