Fox Squirrels at Live Oaks |
Lead | ||
|
I went over and played Live Oaks this passed Sunday in Flora. Anyway, I saw some damn massive fox squirrel. I've seen them before, but I've only seen
the ones that are predominantly red. The one I saw was about the color of a prairie dog, tanish. It was really strange. I've never seen one this color
before. I did a little research and found there are like nine sub-species in the US. I was just wondering if anybody else has seen one that color before.

I probably saw those squirrel's daddies and mommies.
Rick Rodriguez, Dexter McCluster's H.S. coach: "When the Florida recruiters came down
recruiting Dex, I told them they'd better sign him or he'd come back to bite them in the ass. He bit them in the ass last fall."

and I was completely surprised. They are huge. They look like miniature foxes. They are more common in the southern part of the state. Lots of them on the
coast where there are old growth oak trees.

he has a white face and can barely walk. I swear it is Phil Jackson crawling around in my oak trees. |

but there are a bunch of them at Canton CC. They have a white spot on their face and white paws.

in Lamar County before they clear cut everything. They were what I consider to be the most typical type of fox squirrel, based upon them exhibiting the type
of colors associated with foxes. Here's a picture, but the ones I saw tended to be redder in the body and darker around the head. I'm guessing that
is the same type you see on the coast.
