Orange Slice in Wheat Beer

Last night I went to a social event with my boss, a few coworkers and the summer interns that are here for a few weeks.
My boss talks junk about the orange slice in my Lienenkeugel Sunset Wheat and says no real beer is served with a fruit slice.
So question is: Are Sunset Wheat, Blue Moon, Blue Heron, etc. real beers?

I vote yes.

It's not a cocktail, the orange slice provides a purpose. I don't know one way or another, but I always just assumed the citric aced makes some kind of difference. I know a good sunset wheat is made just that much better with an orange slice, especially Lienenkeugel, and to a lesser degree Blue Moon. Blue Moon is my preferred six pack for weekday consumption.

Does it have to be a flagship product of a company based out of Milwaulkee or St Louis? Seriously, a 'good beer' is not defined by the presence or lack thereof of fruit. So is Dos Equis not a real beer? I think some lime in that one does it well.

I mean, enjoying white wine isn't a bad thing, but enjoying white wine and having an extreme aversion to fruit... Makes you wonder...

What I understand about the orange slice thing is that orange peels and cilantro are used in the brewing process and somebody decided the orange garnish would "bring out the orange flavors." The thing that I don't like about oranges in my Blue Moon or lemons in my Pyramid Hefe Weizen is that the citric acid knocks the head off.

My boss is also a white wine drinker and I am pretty much embarassed to go to any decent social event with him. Worse, he drinks fucking chardonnay. Chardonnay is the biggest pussy wine on the planet. It is the wine version of a Pink Lady. Fucking Chardonnay.

a purist would say beer should only have four ingredients: water, hops, barley and yeast (and no fruit). Not that I am a purist but I've seen some on tv.

Coppola has a Pino Grigio that's cheap and goes well with pasta. I usually drop a dash of that in Alfredo sauce if I think it's too thick.

arguably a religious purist is the kind that likes to blow up people of other religions. I think when choosing booze, I'll keep an open mind and not rule out 'those damn fruity beers' like sunset wheats.

I think it's a generational thing. When we have work "parties", all the old couples are drinking white and the youngbloods are all about the red. You can take that to the bank.

A Pino Grigio is not a Chardonnay is not a Reisling. It's not 'a white wine by any other name'

I enjoy a good Pino Grigio with any seafood alfredo, not just in it. I just can't say I think all white wines suck, because I've got one I like.

Merlot or Pinot Grigio mainly. Of course I loved all alcohol. I've really craved it today for some reason.

I've always heard that, if you can't run with the big dogs, you should stay on the porch. My question is, why does one's inability or lack of desire to run with big dogs confine him to the porch? Why shouldn't such a man be allowed to roam the rest of the house or even go for a nice walk in the park?

I generally do not like fruity beers or fruit in my beer. I prefer a straight-up beer if I'm going to be drinking beer. I think the "chill" beers currently being hawked are awful.

Now for the caveats:
- I don't like light beers. I will occasionally drink one, but not with any real joy.
- Lime in a Corona or Dos Equis is fine. Excellent, in fact. Especially on a Carribbean beach.
- Abita's Strawberry Beer is not bad. It's quite mild, and is the best fruity beer I've had. I'd still much rather have an Abita Amber.

I'm generally a fan of red and dark beers, emphasis on reds.
